How to use this map

This map of Rome is based on the famous eighteenth-century map of the city by Giambattista Nolli.

The map shows the iconic sites of Rome and all the locations in the city that have a Dutch connection.

The red pinpoints refer to the locations that have been represented in Dutch art and literature through the ages. Click on a pinpoint to see the connected artworks.

On the left, you can change the locations represented (red pinpoints) to:

- historic locations, sites of historical importance such as meeting points of Dutch artists in Rome (green pinpoints).

- actual locations,  churches and museums in Rome where Dutch artwork can be seen today (blue pinpoints).

You can also change the map to the original Nolli Map and the present-day situation on Google Maps.
